FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How much do the treatments cost?
Treatments start at £15.00 each and increase depending on the size of your lawn.
  • When can I start having lawn treatments?
My treatments are carried out between the months of February and November. You can start anytime between these months.
  • Do I have to be in when you come to treat my lawn?
Most of my customers are not home at the time of their treatment. As long as I have access to your lawn, I can carry out the treatment without the need for you to be present. If you would prefer to be in when I am treating your lawn, I will do my best to accommodate your request.
  • How long will it take to see results?
Following a seasonal treatment you will notice the weeds dying and the grass greening up within a couple of weeks. After two or three treatments your lawn will be thriving and a significant difference will be seen.
  • How many treatments do I need to have?
Lawn treatments are an ongoing process. There are a minimum of 5 treatments per year. Additional treatments can be added to this total if needed and I will recommend these to you when your lawn needs them.
  • How much should I water my lawn?
Watering your lawn during dry periods is essential to keep it green and healthy. However, during the colder and wetter seasons, there should not be any need to water your lawn. Your lawn needs at least 1 inch - 1.5 inches of water per week, year round. Water deeply 2 - 3 times per week, rather than daily. If you cannot push a 6 inch screwdriver into your lawn, you're not watering enough.
  • Should I mow the lawn before you treat it?
On some occasions I will advise that you mow your lawn before I come and treat it. I will also let you know how long to wait after each treatment before you can mow the lawn again.
  • Do I have to water my lawn after treatments?
I highly recommend watering thoroughly if there has been no rainfall within 2 days of applying a treatment.
  • Wouldn’t it be cheaper to treat the lawn myself?
This is very unlikely. Store bought granular feeds are costly and have half of the nutritional value of my professional formulated products. My fertilisers are specifically designed for my customer’s lawns and cannot be bought in any store.
  • I have children or pets. Anything I should be aware of following a lawn treatment?
I recommend that children and pets keep off of the lawn for approximately two hours after a liquid based treatment. Grazing pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs should be kept off the lawn for a minimum of two weeks or three cuts, whichever occurs latest, to avoid ingestion of applied treatments.
  • Do your treatments get rid of moss?
Yes, I apply a product that is high in iron which will dry out the moss within your lawn.
  • Are lawn treatments good for the environment?
The purpose of lawn treatments is to improve lawn health, soil structure and reduce weeds and moss. Lawns are great for the environment. Grass is highly efficient in turning carbon dioxide into oxygen. A healthy lawn, with the average size of 230sqm, produces enough oxygen for a family of 4. Lawns are also a great feeding ground for birds.
  • Do you provide a one-off treatment?
I highly recommend signing up to my seasonal treatment program, which consists of 5 chemical applications per year with optional extras. If I think you would benefit from a single treatment, then I may make an exception.
  • I think my lawn is beyond repair. Can O.H Lawns save it?
Yes, I have not yet come across a lawn that I have not been able to improve with treatments.
  • Can treatments be carried out in the rain?
The only circumstance where I would not treat in the rain is when the rain is very heavy and I am applying a weed killer to a lawn that has lots of weeds on it. If for any reason the rain has affected the effectiveness of the treatment, I will come back and re-apply free of charge.
  • Is O.H Lawns licensed to treat lawns?
Yes, I am licensed to treat lawns and hold a valid National Proficiency Training Council qualification to apply lawn treatments.
  • How often and what length should I be mowing my lawn?
Ideally, at least once per week at around 2 inches, if not slightly longer during dry spells. The more a lawn is mowed the thicker and quicker it will grow. The longer the leaf of the grass plant, the greener it will be as it can hold more moisture.
  • Why has part of my lawn gone black after a treatment?
This will most likely be the moss within your lawn after an application of iron has been applied. This is a perfectly normal occurrence. Once the moss has dried out and turned black, it will gradually disintegrate over time. If you have large, thick areas of moss then it may be beneficial to rake this out. Once you have removed the moss, some seed may be required to fill in the area. On some occasions, some of the grass leaves will also turn black. This will gradually fade over a couple of weeks and you can resolve this issue quicker with regular mowing and watering.
  • Do I have to sign a contract?
No, there is no contract to sign. You can stop having treatments at any time.
  • Why does my lawn have coarse/field looking grass in it?
These are annual grass types. They will come and go depending on temperatures and whether or not there is room for them to grow in your lawn, just like weeds. You can reduce the chance of this happening by aerating and over-seeding with a finer grass species. The thicker your lawn is, the less weeds and coarse grass will be able to grow. If you have small areas of coarse grass that you would like removed quickly, the only way to do this would be to dig it out and re-seed.
  • How much will watering the lawn cost me, if I am on a water metre?
As of 2014, a cubic metre of water cost £2.00. If you were to water at 1 inch per square metre deep, on a 100 sqm lawn, this would be 2.5 cubic metres of water or £5.00. Doing this weekly, during the driest 1 or 2 months is affordable for many.
